Have you ever wanted pretty spice jars and personalized labels but don’t think you can because of your budget? I thought the same thing. But I’ve found a way around it.
I’ve spent plenty of time scouring Amazon for inexpensive spice jars, and I’ve found some cute ones. But there’s never been room in the budget for that extra splurge.
It costs enough to buy more spices when I run out of one anyway. It seems like an extra unnecessary step to buy the spices, buy the jars, transfer the spices to the jars, then try to find a cute label.
Seriously? That seems like a waste of time. Plus, I don’t want to bother trying to figure out how to print a label.
I’ll show you my hack for getting budget-friendly spice jars and personalized labels without all the hassle.
The perfect spice jars.
My mom finds good stuff at Walmart, and this find is no exception. One day she came home with jars of organic spices from Walmart. They already look pretty since they’re glass jars.
These jars are just as good as anything you’re going to find online, and they come with the spices already in them!
I think that’s a good deal.
Since she found them, I’ve been slowly replacing my spices with these jars each time I run out. I just add them to the cart in the Walmart Grocery app for my weekly grocery pick up, so these jars are part of the grocery budget.
Add a label.
The labels on the jars aren’t exactly cute, so I came up with a way to make my own without needing a printer or a Cricut.
I turn the jar on its side and write the label on using a white oil-based Sharpie (mine is medium point, but fine point might work better). While my handwriting isn’t my favorite, the overall effect isn’t that bad. Looking at the drawer, the labels are pretty uniform.
Removing the original label.
Sometimes I peel the original label off the jar, especially if I want to reuse it. I use a hairdryer on warm and low to heat up the label to make it easier to peel. Any leftover residue I remove using lemon essential oil.
This is a simple way to give your spices a custom look without spending extra on special jars or trying to figure out how to print a label. You can’t get any better than frugal, practical, and hassle-free.

Thanks for the idea to write on the Tupperware containers the spice in each one! I’ve put off for so long labeling them because I couldn’t find a label system for the many spices I have. Really appreciate your site. Good day to get it done.
